Ouch Insurance Review

Ouch Insurance is part of the crowd of online insurers that claims to be able to provide cheaper travel insurance. In this case, Ouch especially mentioned that the price will be pain-free, which I thought was a witty way to put it.

Before going any further, the first thing to note is that only international journeys are able to be insured. I came to this conclusion after arriving to their Policy Insurance page and was only showed a list of international plans. However despite this drawback, the plans are actually pretty decent.

My favourite product in their portfolio is their Premier Plus Extras Travel Plan. You can take out this plan if you are going to USA, Canada and Antarctica. One very intriguing to know too is that Qantas Frequent Flyer points are also available in this plan. One policy can be taken out as either Single or Family. I was glad to see all the essentials are included such as unlimited claims on cancellation, emergency travel arrangements, medical/dental expenses and evacuations. However the one thing that stands out from the other plans is that you also get covered for funeral expenses within Australia as well as claims for total permanent disability.

The next plan after this is known as A Travel Plan, covering Continental Europe, South and Central America, Middle East, Africa and Japan. Things are pretty similar to the Premier Plus plan, except there are no coverage for funeral and TPD. The amounts you can claim for the other things are also identical too, and if there are any differences in claim amounts, they are just a few thousand/hundred dollars, depending what the benefits are.

The B Travel Plan is the minimum cover for UK, Asia and Tahiti. One difference in this product is that hospital compensation is a few thousand dollars less than the mentioned plans, as well as travel delays and accidental death. However don’t let the lower claim put you down, because considering the amount you can still claim, they would be perfect for anyone heading to UK, Asia or Tahiti.

Finally, C Travel Plan was designed for people heading to the Pacific Region and Indonesia, basically countries close to home.. Even though it is the lowest cover, the benefit levels are still quite high. To prove this point, the amount you can claim for accidental death is $20,000 for Family and $10,000 for Singles.

Regardless where you are going, as long as you are heading outside of Australia, there is no doubt that you will be able to get the coverage you need under the right price.
